Do I need an account to use JustDrop?
No. There's no account, no app and nothing to install. You open a room, share the short code, and the other person joins from any browser.
Where are my files stored?
Files are encrypted in your browser first. When a room is closed, its files and room details are being removed from our storage. Our cloud provider may keep a recoverable copy for up to 7 days.
Can anyone else see what I send?
The file is encrypted in your browser before upload. Anyone with the room code can join or close the room and may receive files sent in it, so only share the code with the person you're sending to. Key verification is not yet in place.
Does the person receiving the file need an account or app?
No. They open any browser, type the code you share, and the transfer lands on their device. Nothing to sign up for.
Is JustDrop free?
Yes. You can open a room and move your first file in seconds, free.
How big a file can I send?
Up to 2 GB per file, free. Need to send something bigger? Larger transfers are coming soon.
What can I send with JustDrop?
Files and photos, plus voice notes, passwords, live location and live chat — all inside the same room.
How encryption works
Files are encrypted in your browser before upload. The key exchange does not verify who joins, and the JustDrop server relays the keys, so you are trusting it to relay them honestly. Anyone with the room code can join or close the room and may receive files sent in it, so only share the code with the person you're sending to. File names are not encrypted, and we can see file details including names, types, sizes and upload times.
How long does a room stay open?
The room stays open until you press Close. Closing the browser tab does not close the room. Press Close to remove your files. Anyone with the room code can also close the room. When a room is closed, its files and room details are being removed from our storage. Our cloud provider may keep a recoverable copy for up to 7 days. The room closes when the timer ends, if a tab is still open.
